The charging handle operates and opens the dust cover, adding another interactive feature to the rifle. You also get the familiar pistol grip and standard M4-style fire selector arrangement, so anyone accustomed to this platform will feel at home quickly.

The fire selector provides safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic settings. Semi-auto gives you one shot for each trigger pull, making it the sensible choice for controlled target shooting and situations where full-auto fire is not required. Move the selector to automatic and the electric mechanism continuously cycles while the trigger is held. With a quoted muzzle velocity of approximately 300 FPS, the B4812 has a useful level of performance for a budget electric BB gun. Actual velocity can vary depending on factors such as BB weight and battery condition, and players intending to use it at an organised airsoft site should always check that site's specific FPS and firing-mode rules.

A removable 400-round high-capacity magazine provides plenty of ammunition for casual shooting and helps make full-auto mode much more practical. The curved M4-style magazine fits neatly with the overall design and can be removed from the receiver for loading. A 400-round capacity is particularly handy for newer users who do not want to spend half their time repeatedly refilling a small magazine. Full auto will still make short work of 400 BBs if you get carried away, of course, so a little trigger discipline goes a long way.

Moving towards the rear, the B4812 uses a solid fixed full stock rather than the adjustable sliding stock commonly found on modern M4 and M4A1 replicas. It gives the rifle a substantial shoulder profile and complements the traditional carry-handle styling particularly well. The combination of the full-size stock, M4 pistol grip and full-scale proportions means this feels much more like a conventional rifle layout than some of the smaller entry-level electric BB guns available.

Power comes from an included rechargeable 8.4V battery, and a charger is supplied in the box as well. That makes the Blackviper B4812 a convenient starting package because the essential electrical equipment required to operate the AEG is already included. Taken as a whole, this is a straightforward budget airsoft rifle with some genuinely useful features: approximately 300 FPS performance, a 400-round high-cap magazine, semi and full-auto firing, a working safety, removable carry handle, top receiver rail, quad rail handguard and that unusual transparent receiver.
