The ARES Licenced FN Herstal SCAR H-TPR Airsoft Rifle in Black takes the familiar SCAR-H platform and stretches it into a full-size Tactical Precision Rifle designed for players who favour deliberate, accurate shooting. At 1010-1070mm long and approximately 2940g, this is no compact CQB carbine. It's a proper long-format airsoft rifle with the proportions, controls and adjustability to suit a designated marksman-style loadout.

Starting at the muzzle, the SCAR H-TPR uses a standard 14mm CCW thread, giving you plenty of choice when fitting compatible airsoft suppressors, tracer units or alternative muzzle devices. Behind it sits that impressive 510mm inner barrel, giving the rifle a long internal barrel setup to complement its precision-oriented proportions. An adjustable hop-up allows the BB trajectory to be tuned for your preferred ammunition, which is particularly important on a rifle intended to make the most of carefully placed shots at longer skirmish distances.

The front end flows into the unmistakable SCAR upper receiver, manufactured from aluminium for a suitably solid feel. A long Picatinny top rail provides generous mounting space for compatible optics. Inside is where the ARES SCAR H-TPR becomes particularly interesting. The metal Version 2 gearbox incorporates the ARES EFCS Electronic Fire Control System, replacing conventional mechanical trigger contacts with electronic control. Paired with the programmable MOSFET arrangement, this gives the trigger a crisp response and helps reduce wear associated with traditional electrical contacts. Silver wiring and a factory T-Dean connector complete the electrical setup, providing a lower-resistance connection than the older small Tamiya plugs still found on plenty of airsoft guns.

The gearbox also incorporates a quick-change spring system, making power adjustment considerably less involved than stripping down a traditional gearbox to reach the spring. Factory output is listed at approximately 330 FPS, and an additional 1.3 Joule spring is supplied with the rifle for use where appropriate. Actual muzzle energy will depend on the spring, BB weight and individual setup, so the rifle should always be chronographed after changes and configured within the limits of the site where it will be used. Having quick spring access simply makes that process considerably less painful.

Fire controls provide safe, semi-automatic and full-automatic operation, so despite the SCAR H-TPR's precision-rifle appearance, it retains the flexibility of an AEG rather than behaving like a dedicated bolt-action sniper rifle. Semi-auto is the natural fit for carefully aimed shots and designated marksman-style play, while the ability to make rapid follow-up shots gives the platform a different character from a manually operated rifle. Full-auto capability is also present where site rules permit it, making the TPR more adaptable than its long barrel and serious expression might initially suggest.

Moving to the rear, the modular tactical stock can be adjusted between an overall rifle length of approximately 1010mm and 1070mm. That adjustment helps tailor the shooting position around your body shape, clothing and tactical equipment, which is particularly welcome on a rifle of this size. The battery compartment is located around the quick-release stock area, keeping the electrical setup contained at the rear. The removable tactical metal stock also contributes to the solid feel of the platform and complements the aluminium upper receiver nicely.

The supplied 100-round mid-cap magazine suits the TPR particularly well. There is no winding wheel and no reservoir of loose BBs rattling around while you're trying to move quietly into position. More importantly, ARES includes a hard replica transport case rather than sending the rifle out in nothing more substantial than cardboard. Add the spare spring, adjustable hop-up, electronic trigger system and extensive accessory space, and the FN Herstal SCAR H-TPR becomes a well-rounded option for players after something between a conventional assault-style AEG and a dedicated precision platform.
